We are pleased to welcome back to ChurchKorner the incomparable Heather Aubrey Lloyd who will be joined by the fabulous special guests, The Lords of Liechtenstein!

Heather Aubrey Lloyd

This is the second time that Heather is playing in our living room and at this concert, she is celebrating the release of her new CD "A Message in the Mess." One of the songs on her CD was written on the way to ChurchKorner the last time she played here in March 2015. Come to the show and find out which one! :)

What do you get when a recovering reporter, performance poet and fairy tale collector writes songs? Heather Aubrey Lloyd has co-fronted Baltimore’s ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You) for 15 years, playing everything from bars to bait shops to clothing-optional resorts nationwide. After a solo stint backing Dar Williams, Lloyd started work on a solo CD. 2017’s “A Message in the Mess" is exactly that: A storybook drawn from real life, but populated by colorful, larger-than-life characters: Hippie Tooth Faeries, Jackson Pollock reincarnated as a flock of pigeons and aspiring animal crackers. The common thread: Lloyd’s stunning and emotive alto, pushed to new limits in inventive arrangements featuring mandolin, banjo, upright bass, ukulele and delightfully bizarre percussion (yes, that really is recorded bubble wrap). She is both a 2017 Telluride Troubadour Finalist and 2017 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist.

"Sometimes an artist just needs to stretch her wings [and 'A Message in the Mess'] is so eclectic ... designed to showcase Lloyd's vocals, which remind you of Natalie Merchant in [her] prime. Seriously, 'The Animal Crackers Song' is freaking magical (are those kazoos and xylophones with a brass section?!?). The lyrics are delightful, and it will make you feel great - Put it on repeat."

The Lords of Liechtenstein

We have seen Dan and Noah several times in many different venues (including multiple house concerts) and have been trying to invite them to ChurchKorner for some time. We are so excited that they agreed to open for Heather!

The Lords of Liechtenstein is a contemporary folk band based in New York City. It started as a duo project of two brothers, Dan and Noah Rauchwerk, and has since grown into a full five-piece band, adding guitarist Ned Steves, bassist Matt Fernicola, and drummer Arjun Dube. The Lords often draw comparisons to The Everly Brothers for their harmonic sensibilities and to The Smothers Brothers for their mischievous onstage interactions. They write purposeful lyrics to tell musical stories that fluctuate between heart-wrenchingly sad and outlandishly ridiculous topics. The Lords have opened for musical stalwarts such as Brett Dennen, Elephant Revival, and Buckwheat Zydeco, and have been featured on NPR's syndicated Mountain Stage program. Their newest album, Downhill Ride to Joyland, is a raucous fifteen-song romp through the ups and downs of human existence.

"An interesting cross-pollination of Simon and Garfunkel and They Might Be Giants, perhaps with a dash of The Smothers Brothers"
- Bill Lynch, Charleston Gazette-Mail

We are excited for this concert! RSVP Today and don't miss out on a fantastic night of music!
